2008 April 28: Polar Mission Ends: After a very successful 12-year mission, the Polar Spacecraft was decommissioned on April 28, 2008. TIDE received its last science data at 12:52 on 04/16/08.

2006 October 6: Attempt to get resolved mass data: The Start MCP voltage was changed from -2600V to -3400V, first as a test on 09/28/06 from 21:55 to 23:03 UT and then routinely starting at 10:35 UT on 10/06/06. As a result of the voltage change there was a increase in the time-of-flight (direct-event) counts that makes it possible to report ion data. In addition to Stops, H+, O+, and He+ are now being reported. Plots and information from voltage ramps in 1996 and on 09/28/06 are available in start_mcp_ramp and plots for data starting on 10/06/06 are in 2006-ions. The websites have been modified to allow users to create custom plots and data dumps of the new ion data. The quality of the ion data was never very good. Reporting of the ions stopped in May 2007.

2005 July 21: The TIDE Summary Plot Thumbnail Viewing Display now available: Select the 'View Thumbnail Plots' link at the left to view half-orbit or perigee summary plot thumbnails for a user-specfic species and time period.

2005 July 13: Phase Space Density versus Velocity Custom Plot now available: Select 'Custom TIDE Plots' link at the left and then a thumbnail for a PSD vs. Velocity plots. Note: This option is only available for Total Ion (Stops) data (Dec.7,1996 to the present).

2005 June 24: Velocity Distribution Contour Plots and GSM/GSE coordinate displays now available: Select 'Custom TIDE Plots' link at the left and then a thumbnail for velocity distribution plots.

2005 March 18: The new TIDE data archive at GSFC now online: The TIDE data archive at GSFC has been moved to a larger disk. All the 1996 data that had been removed because of lack of disk space have been restored.

2005 March 15: The GSFC website and data archive will be unavailable during the setup of the new archive disks: The TIDE data archive at GSFC has crashed. Fortunately, it was just two days before it was scheduled to be replaced. The GSFC archive and all web-based data viewing and processing will be unavailable until the new archive is available, which should be on 3/17 or 3/18. The mirror site at MSFC will be available during this time. goewin will be down for the installation of the new disks from 9:30 AM to 3:00 PM EST 3/16/05.

2004 November 16: Remaining 1996 TIDE data temporarily removed from GSFC data archive: Due to a lack of disk space on the TIDE data archive at GSFC (goewin), all level-zero, orbit, and attitude files for 1996 have been temporarily removed from the archive on goewin. The files will be restored as soon as disk space is available. Data Download and Custom Plots will not work for 1996 data on the GSFC web site. All data and web functionality remains available at the NSSTC (MSFC) site.

2004 August 18: 1996 TIDE data temporarily removed from GSFC data archive: Due to a lack of disk space on the TIDE data archive at GSFC (goewin), all level-zero, orbit, and attitude files for February, March, August, September, October, November, and December 1996 have been temporarily removed. The files will be restored as soon as disk space is available.

2004 June 16: TIDE Web Site Revamped: The TIDE web site (and mirror site GSFC) have been revamped and modernized, as you can see. The old familiar links are still here, plus a few new ones you might like to explore. Then there is the new "Webmaster" line where you can notify the Webmaster of site problems or ask questions about the site. Also, you'll find a new "data dump" option for custom plots. Watch for additional news items to appear here as we head toward the upcomming OSS Senior Review and beyond.
