Flow bursts
Two examples of sunward flow bursts observed by POLAR/TIDE for high magnetic shear at the subsolar magnetopause. The two panels in the column to the left (right) show velocity distributions in the magnetosheath (magnetosphere). The first event (3/20/01) shows velocity distribution functions in the x-z GSE plane. The second event (4/2/02) shows the x-y GSE plane. The arrow in each panel indicates magnetic field projection into the plane with azimuthal and latitudinal angles shown in the upper left and right corner, respectively.
